New Windows
For the last few weeks, John Arne, Luis and Moncho have been putting in our new windows and making fancy frames for them. Here are before and after shots of the front of the house:
With only two windows it is so sad and rainy. Don't cry, it'll be okay.
Four windows = Bright, Sunny, Wonderfulness. And check out those lovely frames. Here are some pictures from the stages in between:
Ella supervised the entire time. Good dog.

The east side of the house. Here you can see the new windows below, in contrast to the old ones above. Also, there was only one window below before.
Somehow Bine slept through a lot of the banging. When we first got back to Utila our friend Jo said her best advice was to play loud music while the baby sleeps, so as to train her to nap through any kind of background noise. I think renovation tops rock and roll.
Luis took a few minutes out to drown a rat that was ransacking my kitchen. JA caught it in his home-made rat trap. The drowning took too long so Luis eventually let it out and bashed it in the head.

This is the corner bedroom upstairs. Before it had just one window on each wall. Much more light now.
This is the middle bedroom upstairs, and we've decided this one will be Bine's room. It also had only one window on each wall. And the old one facing the porch was much smaller. Before putting in the windows the guys had to remove the previous walls, made of masonite (glorified cardboard), and put up drywall. Much more arduous than it sounds, since the masonite was flexible and therefore the man who built the house didn't have to make any of the walls straight. JA had level out the walls a bit before he could proceed with drywall.

1 Comments:
The house looks great! Really like the new windows. And Ella looks like the most profesesional guard dog in the world... Majestetic!
